The Interconnectedness

The interconnectedness

Of particles in space

And the entire

Human race

We don’t know

What we don’t know

But the answers

That we seek

Seem so unimportant

And fundamentally, weak

Chasing rainbows

Made of dust

We don’t know

What we don’t know

But we’re comforted

At night

By a growing suspicion

That we’re right

We build walls and plant flags

And make plans to annihilate

For the love of our children

We teach them to hate

Mirrors of flesh

Reflect our own eyes

Where destiny and fate

And all existence collide

Flights of fancy

Superiority

Take root

In enchanted

Mediocrity

We just

Don’t

Get it

Yet, we all have a place

In this Universe of being

And in all its amazing grace

Carry on, carry on

Wounded warriors who fight

For the love of the day

And the wake of the night

Through ages and time

And deep down inside

Wairua and soul

And all knowing resides

Awaken, awaken

Descendants of all

Who have been but the mothers

Of all who were born

Earth, please be patient

While we learn to reside

With peace and with kindness

Put ambition aside

Intrinsically wrapped

Together

In Earth’s womb

Stars flicker encouragement

By the face of the moon

And all rhythms are easy

Wisely conducting the show

There’s more to be reaped

Than the seeds that we sow

Turn inward sometimes

Trust your gut and your heart

In the twinkling of a lifetime

So much we can start

Soul that is whole

And peace that resides

Knows all truth

And all lies

And the wisdom of tides

Can we go back, go back

Just stop and be still

Rest in the arms that

Have held us until

Now is the hour

We’ve lost touch with so much

In the busy of work and the

Schedule of rush

Look at each other

And see our reflection

See similar burdens

And the exact same perfection

And when to the dirt

And the ground we return

May we delight in the love

And the light that we learned

Opposites Attract

Poetry - Opposites Attract

Opposites Attract

Where whirlwind

And gentle breeze collide

One intensifies

While the other must subside

Though waves crash

Against a rigid land

Some union is formed

In the shifting of sand

Night gives up

Its dark silhouettes

Sun defines for a while

What the night can’t forget

To and fro, and give and take,

Round and round

Quiet solitude plays tag

With crescendo of sound

Solid, yet agreeing

To defer and meet half-way

A season takes its breath

While another has their say

Alike in ways not obvious

Just the ways that matter most

Anchored, surely in the ground

The tree, the rootstock, the post

Opposites – not opposites

Profound and innate

Attract in the way they do

By will, design and by fate

Hungry

Hungry

Said the ant

As he explored

Ahead of the pack

Hungry

Said the horse

Cantering down

To his haystack

Hungry

Said the dog

Tail wagging

Expectant face

Hungry

Said the Christian

Head bowed

And saying grace

Hungry

Said the night

I can hardly

Last this through

Hungry

Said the Universe

I’m holding on

For you!

Feeding

As we need

And giving

For those who won’t

Feeding

What we have

Making provision

For those who don’t

Leave our seed

To sow

Old fashioned

Though we appear

Leave our seed

And land

In the hands

Of those who share

Milky Way

I hung a picture on the wall

A chance to frame my life as well

In the colours and shapes

However beheld

The me they are trying to tell

Got a dog to sit for a bit

Fragile gaze from dog to girl

Mistaken for comprehension

Truth be told

It was hard to tell

Made a meal and left a cake unbaked

Cleaned in case guests visit

Music and lyrics borrowed

To occupy my mind

But is it?

Restless recollections

Unravelling the plot

Getting a sense of who I am

An understanding and a respect

For who I am not

And as the day simmers to a close

I know more than I did before

Not nearly enough though, still

So I breath and eat and sleep

And hope to learn much more

Wrapped in paisley and warm

Satellites held hostage instead

To a course they could not choose

While I slip into dancing

And go where I fancy in my head

Fuzzy new beginnings

Are the seed of tomorrow

So it’s important to rise for the occasion

Touch the floor without thinking

Thoughts soon enough will follow

Little seems to change

Though incrementally, this is a quantum leap away

And more possibilities stretch ahead like stars

In the bright, southern beautiful

Milky Way

The White ‘f’ in Blue

Is Facebook only for the lonely?

A place to be affirmed

A place to go to laugh

To feel

A place where every fabricated smile

Seems so

(Unfortunately) real

There are 1.4 billion people in China

India’s 1.3

Add the two

And it’s still too few

To represent the population

Of the white

f in blue

Hi, my name is Rosie

And I’m a Facebook addict

Help me get clean

From this time-consuming waste

To live in the here and now

And pull my head out of this blue

Made-up place

Some say, “Who cares if they see

What I post and what I say?

If that’s all they’re good for

Who cares!

Surely, they’ve got better things to do

Than read my posts

Year after years”

But how to catch on fire

Infect the minds worldwide?

What better way to infiltrate

And burrow deep inside?

Than in the white f in blue

Where so many

Go to hide

And so, like stock we gather

Round the white f in blue watering hole

And we suck it up

Think we are part of something good

How long before we wake up?

And see how little

We have understood

I feel trapped now

Like so many

In this global critical mass

I wake and check to see

Messages and posts and news

Picked by algorithms

Not by me

Last thing at night

As the light’s about to dim

I check to see I’m all caught up

And with the white f in blue by my bed

I give over to the night – but still

With white f in blue thoughts

In my head

How much sleep is lost?

Immune systems weakened?

Insidiously, a worse agenda

Direct all enquiry, numb the mind

Make independent thought unpopular

And seeing eyes

Make blind

Hi, my name is Rosie

And I’m a Facebook addict

Recognising you have a problem

Is the first step they say

God, give me strength to kick the white f in blue!

Help me quit this habit

And keep it away

Pieces

(Contains language some may find offensive)

Build it up

I’ll tear it down

In place of gems

A thorny crown

Broken

Like it’s meant to be

Fractured, token

Shell of me

Exploding pieces

Rock to dust

Busted bust

On pedestal

Broken pieces

Watch me fall

No holy grail

Or sacred ground

You think you see

But never found

Faulted

Fucked illusion

Naïve, youthful

Sweet delusion

Mangled myth

Fragments free

Take a wrecking

Ball to me

Dented

Imperfection real

See for once

The things I feel

The Rose

Out of a graveyard
Comes the rose
From an arid ground
A concrete
Crumbled
Wasteland

And the rose is more beautiful
Than the rubble that surrounds her
More beautiful than the sky

She is gentle
Delicate
Humble
Yet strong enough
To quietly rise above the ruin
She is a treasure
In a world that needs to gaze upon her

For the short time that she will live
She will give
Only joy to those who stop
And peace
To those who seek silence in her company

She is beauty
She is gratitude
She is hope
She is love
She is growing

Metamorphosis

Stained glass heart

Opaque crystal light

Dappled incandescence

Searing still, despite

False starts

And broken promise

Dared not to dream

Be honest

Wallflower camouflage

Unremarkable skin

Bud downtrodden

Bruised and blended in

Bug of no beauty

Matted hair

Fleetingly seen

Seldom there

Yet somehow lifted by the waves

Of heady possibility

Kaleidoscope of colour rose

Defying mute humility

Moth dropping its cocoon

Like a cloth of sacking

Slowly filled with nectar

Where its fill was once left lacking

Metamorphosis starts

Sun gradually warming

No map for this journey

Of unshackled exploring

Knitted together

In a new mold and frame

Reflecting love’s light

In the time that remains

Make believe like you’re lovable

Something Neat Like That

Make believe

Like you’re lovable

Or something neat like that

Make believe

Exile reality

The daily grind

You combat

 In lace and star bursts

Paint the sky

Rainbow hue and through

Dance a dance and leap

Beyond the now

Look back and giggle

At the ordinary you

Mimic the clowns

Actresses and movie stars

Like a child testing the stage

Be a little reckless

Never once

For fear or dread

Act your age

Feel everything

Your hair dashing across your skin

Trapeze slung sailing acrobat

Make believe

Like you’re lovable

Or something neat

Like that

Look at your face

Straight on at its best

Glee in your eyes like you’re desirable

Trust newfound confidence

And imaginary friends

Whose affirmation

Is reliable

Lift with the breeze

Sail three sheets to the wind on the sea

Meander with the stream

And like a feathered bird

Rise beyond tides

And all that constrains

The dream

Daintily turn

On point precariously, purposely still

For a moment just pause

Then roller coaster down

Toward adoring crowds

What a sight!  And the sound

Of applause

Comfort yourself

With daydreams for comfort’s sake

One last indulgent rejuvenating act

Make believe

Like you’re lovable

Or something neat

Like that
